Ecotime FAQ
Rainwater recycling (rainwater harvesting) is the process whereby rainwater is recovered for various uses, including cooling machinery, replacing tapwater to flush toilets, or for sprinkling lawns and gardens, etc.
Greywater recycling is the repeated usage of the same water resource to optimize its efficiency. In this type of system, drainwater from showers, bathtubs, washbasins and sinks is collected for treatment then stored and reused for toilet flushing. Note that greywater is different from blackwater (a.k.a. valvewater) which is the water runoff from toilets, urinals and kitchen sinks and which empties directly into the sewerage system.
The good news is these two water recycling options can be combined to drastically reduce your tapwater consumption, which, in turn, helps protect & preserve our valuable water resources.
Just in Quebec alone, the equivalent of 121,160 Olympic-sized swimming pools (filled with tapwater) wastefully goes down the drain each year. This is a significant figure, and is further compounded by the fact that more and more cities are failing to meet their residents’ water needs. Globally, access to water resources and the drying out of groundwater in countries worldwide are becoming critical eco-societal issues.
Recycling and re-using greywater and stormwater allows us to drastically reduce our consumption of drinking and/or tapwater and thus optimizes the water usage footprint of each and every building. It is estimated that more than 40% of the water used in a single building does not need to be potable i.e. it’s a very important leverage in the fight against climate change and the preservation and sustainability of our most precious resource.
Finally, developers & property owners can take advantage of Ecotime’s water recycling systems to profit from the following: green building certification; less infrastructure water wastage by maximizing greywater usage; avoid overflows in some cases; monetary savings on the cost of water management particularly for the institutional sector.
A household’s energy bill is an important expense with 15-25% of this bill directly related to heating water. That makes your hot water costs (primarily used for showers and baths) the largest energy expenditure related to domestic water heating. Yet it takes just 7 quick seconds from the moment this hot water starts streaming from the shower head until it disappears down the drain into the sewer!
After recovering heat from the water as soon as it swirls down the drain, the Ecotime system then preheats the lukewarm water entering the water heater, requiring less energy to heat the incoming water. This also prevents thermal shocks to the water heater thereby extending its service lifespan.
Not only does heat recovery result in substantial monetary savings but it also reduces the pressure on the infrastructure’s peak consumption periods. In the real estate sector, applying this thermal upgrading principle also allows for green building certification and/or other building requirements to be achieved successfully.
The Ecotime Oasis rainwater harvesting & recyling system gives you the choice of a range of modular units that provide the optimal installation and operation for every type of building. Team Ecotime will help you fully understand what is required for your home or building. Before taking any decision you’ll receive a cost-effective analysis of an Oasis installation at your site.
Help us get an initial idea of your project by answering a short Ecotime questionnaire. For the next step, we’ll arrange a phone call to discuss your project in more detail in order to provide you with the best Ecotime recommendation for your home or building. Although it’s easier to install an Ecotime Oasis System in a building currently under construction, a retrofit installation (i.e. in a building whose construction is complete) is still quite feasible.

The Hydraloop greywater recycling system is available in 3 models with different capacities depending on the size of your project. The H300 and H600 models are suitable for domestic dwellings according to size and needs. Cascade systems are made up of a network of several Hydraloop and can be used to power multi-residential or commercial light projects such as gyms or spas.
Ecotime advises you on the model choice of and its installation by a professional plumber, whatever your project. Our team is there for you every step of the way. The Hydraloop system can be installed in a construction project or in an already functioning (and occupied) building.

The Ecotime Geyser heat recovery system is still under development. The system is compact and easily installed at the outlet of the shower drain. It is a passive mechanical system, which means that it operates autonomously and does not require maintenance. It can be installed in any type of building.

When you have a project where you want to install an Ecotime Oasis System, our team will accompany you every step of the way. First, we submit a quick questionnaire that allows us to visualize your project for your building to get a good idea of its particular characteristics as soon as possible.
Then, we get together to go through this questionnaire and understand your ambitions and any technical constraints. Our team then comes up with an in-depth recommendation that’s best for your project.
When everything is validated, Ecotime builds the system, based on your needs and fully installed by a professional plumber.
Once the installation work is completed, our team takes care of the commissioning and the operator training. We’re always at your disposal for any follow-up maintenance.
When you’re ready to install a Hydraloop system in your home or building, we advise you of the model choice that best suits your lifestyle needs, as well as any possible constraints. We discuss the best way to install the system in your home or building and arrange for the equipment to be delivered to you.
It is then installed by the plumber who sends us confirmation photos that we closely check. Once the installation is complete, our team goes to the site for commissioning of the system. We remain at your disposal for follow-up maintenance.
Our Oasis System bears the «Manufactured in Québec» logo, awarded by Les Produits du Québec. Find this certification here – one that makes us particularly proud because it highlights our commitment to offering our customers the best product available to protect and preserve our local resources. It is also our way of encouraging local trade professionals and investing in our beautiful region.
Our Geyser system is still in development, but our goal is to also meet the necessary requirements for Geyser certification to qualify for the prestigous Manufactured in Québec logo.
The Hydraloop greywater recycling systems are produced by the Dutch company Hydraloop, based in Europe. These products are not manufactured in Quebec.
Everyone is aware of the many climate challenges we all face today. Accordingly, more and more public institutions are providing financial aid for implementing innovative systems that reduce the environmental impact on private homes and commercial buildings alike. Whatever your situation be sure to take advantage of the numerous government grants available for all stakeholders and project types.
Since the steps necessary to apply for these differing grant programs are not always commonly known, the Ecotime experts study the possibilities in each case and help you find the best financing solutions for your particular project. One of our long-term objectives is to ameliorate the construction sector’s legal framework and to initiate incentive policies to facilitate the implementation of water-saving and energy-efficient solutions.
